What to Buy Now: Animal Print Cardigan

Saturday August 21, 2010
animal print cardiSo maybe I'm a bit prejudiced, since the first item I bought myself for the new season was an animal print cardigan. But I think this leopard-print cotton cardi from Banana Republic (Buy Direct) is an instant classic and will go with everything from jeans to cropped black pants.
Animal prints are huge this season -- especially leopard -- so you'll be seeing everything from ballet flats to handbags pop up in this fun print.  (Photo Credit: Banana Republic)

How to Develop Trend-Proof Style

Friday August 20, 2010
Every new season, I fall in love with something fresh and trendy. Last year it was sequins for daytime, this year it's over-the-knee boots. These fun, up-to-the-minute fashion items are like the icing on the wardrobe cake. And while I do enjoy something new each season, it's timeless classics that really fill a closet so that you always have something great to wear.

Would You Wear a Fedora?

Tuesday August 17, 2010
sjpWhat do Jane Fonda, Ozzy Osbourne and Sarah Jessica Parker all have in common? They have all been spotted this year in fedoras.
This season's "It" hat, the fedora pops up in cheap straw versions, luxe felt and everything in between. SJP rocked a hot pink fedora, but it looks just as chic in neutral hues worn with everything from jeans to dresses. What about you? (Photo Credit: Dave Hogan/Getty Images)

Get the Boot!

Saturday August 14, 2010
stuart weitzman ankle bootsI'm crazy for suede boots for fall, and (trust me) it shows in my closet. I adore these fringed Stuart Weitzman booties (pictured) and they make the list of the 7 suede boots to own for fall. But you'll have to click through to find out which boots I did buy for myself.
You may be surprised by how much choice there is in suede boots this season. Of course, tall suede boots are the most understandable and a classic that every woman should own. But ankle boots, over-the-knee boots and cowboy boots also make an appearance. (Photo Credit: Zappos.com)

How to Snag a Steal

Friday August 13, 2010
There aren't many things as thrilling to me as making an unbelievable buy. Like finding a fabulous leopard-print sweater cardigan for less than $25 or snagging an amazing pair of suede oxfords for $15. How do I find these steals? Find out the 7 secrets of highly successful sales shoppers and learn how to shop smarter.

5 Back-to-School Styles to Steal from Kids

Tuesday August 10, 2010
nanette leporeLook how designer Nanette Lepore and her preteen daughter Violet (she has her own cool blog called Daily Life of a Designer's Daughter) are dressed in similar looks. Both are wearing short skirts, asymmetrical tops, necklaces, tights and cool shoes. But they look totally different. That's the beauty of learning to adapt a trend to be age appropriate.
This back-to-school season I've seen so many great young trends that I am totally going to wear myself, like military looks and animal prints. It's easy to find a new trend that works for any age group with 5 Back-to-School Styles to Steal from Kids. (Photo Credit: Stefan Gossati/Getty Images)

"Real Housewives of D.C." Premieres

Friday August 6, 2010
real
housewives of dcI'm a sucker for the "Real Housewives" series (especially "Real Housewives of NY), mostly because it is a window into how (sorta) real people dress. The drama? Well, that's pretty hilarious, too, since most of the women back stab, snipe and moan about each other. The series never portrays women in their best light (like how real friends love and help each other) and I think that's a real missed opportunity. But when it comes to fashion, this series never disappoints, even if it's silly fads like hairbumps on the "Real Housewives of O.C." or Kelly Bensimon of "Real Housewives of "New York" parading around in little miniskirts and fur vests. The D.C. show looks like we'll be seeing plenty of event dressing from the premiere. There was one point that left a bad taste in my mouth: The celebrity stylist friend and Michaela (the housewife who famously snuck her way in to a White House party) cackled about a rack of designer clothes they had, saying something to the effect of "What recession?!"  Anyone else catch this show? How to Wear Ankle Boots

Wednesday August 4, 2010
ankle
bootsAnkle boots (a.k.a booties) are one of the freshest looks in footwear; they have the power to transform an ordinary little black dress into something new and trendy. However. Ankle boots are not the easiest look to carry off because you are dealing with entirely new proportions (and that makes it a little tricky.)
For example, while a chunky ankle boot looks great with an above-the-knee skirt, it looks clunky with a mid-calf length skirt. And the more elements the bootie has (peep-toe, buckles, chunky heel) the more difficult it becomes to work it into your look.
But master how to wear the ankle boot and you'll be the envy of your style-challenged friends. (Photo Credit: Kevin Winter/Getty Images

Hit or Miss? Hillary Clinton's Caftan

Monday August 2, 2010
hillary clintonWhile daughter Chelsea Clinton's Vera Wang wedding dress has drawn the most attention, I think Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's green print caftan was the most ground breaking. The floor-length dress -- which featured a v-neck and dolman sleeves -- was a huge departure for Hillary.
I've become so accustomed to seeing her in frumpy pantsuits (and almost always in solids) that it was a bit of a shocker to see her in something so flowing, so printed, and so -- well -- feminine. I think it's a hit. You? (Photo Credit: Bryan Bedder/Getty Images)

Fall Trend: Fur

Saturday July 31, 2010
fur I tend to like faux fur, and this fall there are plenty of faux pieces to give you the look of luxe.
Although designers showed plenty of fur coats, fur vests are another great look and one that really works for daytime with simply jeans or pants. Fur scarves and fur trims are two ways to get fur in smaller doses. (Photo Credit: Stefan Gosatti/Getty Images)
